REM has recently lodged Resource Consent with both Buller District and West Coast Regional Council’s and the Access Arrangement and Concession applications with the Department of Conservation for the proposed reopening of the Escarpment Mine. This work required REM to project manage numerous technical experts to conduct background environmental assessment and managed the drafting of the technical reports that were lodged with the applications mentioned above. REM continues to work with Buller Coal Limited through the process of obtaining these consents and permissions to enable mining on the southern end of the Denniston Plateau, including helping with any s.92 requests from Councils and assisting with any consultation and hearings.  The Escarpment Mine hearing was held in June 2011 and consents were granted on 26 August 2011.
