REM was engaged by Shell Todd Oil Services (STOS) to undertake an intertidal assessment along the Motunui coastline in North Taranaki following a methanol spill from a ruptured offshore pipeline that supplies the unmanned Pohokura platform. This was a requirement of their resource consent and also as a show of good faith to the community. STOS requested the ecological surveys to be conducted in order to assess if there were any adverse effects as a result of the spill. The assessment involved site visits at low tide to the intertidal reefs and marine ecological surveys to assess the health of the reef. REM will complete a follow up assessment in late 2011.
