Resource consents required under the Resource Management Act 1991 are an integral part of resource management planning.

REM has considerable experience in preparing and successfully obtaining the necessary resource consents (land use consents, water permits, coastal permits and discharge permits) for a wide range of activities. Recent examples include:

  • Coal mining projects
  • Hydro development and other energy sector projects
  • School developments
  • Residential housing developments
  • Petroleum exploration and production projects
  • Development and activity within the coastal marine area.

We are widely experienced in all aspects of the resource consent process, which includes; initial scoping reports, identification of consent requirements, assessments of environmental effects, devising and implementing consultation programmes (including affected / interested parties, tangata whenua, Council officers and other affected parties), recommendation of mitigation measures, preparation and presentation of hearings evidence and, if necessary, appeals to the Environment Court.
